1958 George Yardley of the Detroit Pistons became the first NBA player to score 2,000 points in a single season.
1977 At Hialeah Race Track, Seattle Slew made his three-year-old debut. He won a seven-furlong race in 1:20 3-5, breaking the track record.
1977 Oral Roberts' Anthony Roberts established an NIT record with 65 points, but it wasn't enough as Oregon won the first-round match, 90-89.
1979 Detroit's Kevin Porter handed out a franchise-record 25 assists as the Pistons defeated Boston, 160-117, at the Pontiac Silverdome.
1984 Tim Witherspoon won a 12-round majority decision over Greg Page to take over the vacated WBC heavyweight title.
1986 Buffalo's Gil Perreault notched his 500th goal win a 4-3 triumph over the New Jersey Devils.
1994 Detroit's Dino Ciccarelli registered his 1,000th career point with a 5-1 win over the Calgary Flames.
