With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 5-7 overall, while the Chanticleers improve to 5-8 on the season. Jon Cisna started on the mound for Ball State and pitched 6.2 innings, allowing only two earned runs. Tyler Jordan, who was charged with the loss, and Matt Johnsen completed the game for the Cardinals. Ball State jumped out to a 3-0 lead through six innings with one run in the third, one in the fifth and one in the sixth. The Cardinals scored their initial run when Elbert Devarie scored on a wild pitch after reaching base on a walk. In the fifth inning, Devarie walked and scored on a triple by Blake Beemer down the right field line. Ball State's lone run in the sixth came on a run-batted-in single by T.J. Weir, which scored Sean Godfrey. The Cardinals allowed Coastal Carolina two runs in the seventh and three runs in the eighth to secure the victory for the Chanticleers. Ryan Spaulding managed a 2-for-4 performance, including one double, to lead the Cardinals offensively. The Cardinals will face Ohio State Saturday at 11 a.m. at the CCU Invitational.
