Transy Earns At-Large Bid to Join Rose-Hulman in 62-Team Men's Field

Eastern Indiana SportsINDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference received two
bids into the NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament for the fourth
consecutive year. Conference tournament champion Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology was joined by Transylvania University in the field of 62 for the
second straight season.
Rose-Hulman, the HCAC tournament champions, will host Calvin on Saturday,
March 2 in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament. The
Engineers won the HCAC's automatic bid with a 64-59 win over Hanover in the
HCAC championship game Saturday night.
Transylvania, despite a loss in the HCAC semifinals, earned an at-large
berth into the 62-team field and will travel to Illinois Wesleyan Saturday.
Rose-Hulman, 24-3, will remain at home and welcome Calvin College (24-3) to
Hulbert Arena. The Knights defeated Hope, 77-57, to earn the Michigan
Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) tournament title. Calvin enters
the tournament winners of 18 of its last 19 games, while Rose-Hulman heads
into NCAA postseason play winning 11 of 12 .
The Engineers are making their second straight appearance in the NCAA
Tournament and tenth overall appearance in school history.
The winner of the Rose-Hulman vs. Calvin game will play the winner of the
Wis.-Stevens Point (21-5) vs. Northwestern (MN) (21-6) game Saturday, March
9.
Transylvania University has been selected to play in the 62-team NCAA
Division III Tournament and will be making its fifth appearance in the NCAA
field. The Pioneers (20-7) will travel to Illinois Wesleyan (21-5) Friday.
The Titans fell to Augustana 53-47 in the semifinals of the College
Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament and also earned an
at-large bid to the dance.
The winner of the Transylvania vs. Illinois Wesleyan matchup will face the
winner of the Washington-St. Louis (20-5) vs. Spalding (20-7) game Saturday,
March 9.
