RICHMOND, Ind. - Cody Banet's 3-pointer with 24.5 seconds remaining provided the
margin of victory in the Indiana University East men's basketball team's 69-68 win
against Brescia University in a Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
tournament quarterfinal at Earlham College.
"There's no doubt Cody loves taking big shots - and he's good at it - and he made
several big shots tonight," said IU East coach Mark Hester. "I can't say enough
about the way he stepped up."
IU East (21-10), the No. 2 seed for the KIAC tournament, will face No. 3 seed Asbury
University or No. 6 seed Berea College in a KIAC tournament semifinal on Feb. 25 at
Indiana University Southeast.
Brescia, the No. 7 seed for the KIAC tournament, finished 10-20.
Sophomore guard Huston Clark (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo High School) scored 20 points and
Banet (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central High School), a junior guard, had a season
high 15. Freshman guard Vasha Davis (Hammond, Ind./Morton High School) added 13 off
of the bench as IU East found just enough points to win on a day when its top
scorer, Marcus Isaac, fouled out without scoring.
Myron Christian led Brescia with 16-points, including a 3-pointer with 33 seconds
remaining that put the Bearcats ahead 68-66 and set the stage for Banet's big shot.
