1. Ball State opened the 2013 season with one win in three games at Middle Tennessee State. Scott Baker, a sophomore righthanded pitcher, was named the Mid-American Conference's West Division Pitcher of the Week for his performance in Ball State's 5-1 victory at Middle Tennessee State. Baker pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run, while striking out eight and walking only two. Baker has a 1.29 earned run average on the season and opponents have batted only .231 against him this season. More Ball State Notes

2. Bowling Green will head to Murray State University for a three-game set with the Thoroughbreds, beginning Friday at 3 p.m. ET. The Falcons will enter the weekend with a 2-1 record, their best start since 2007. Junior captain T.J. Losby was named MAC East Player of the Week by the Mid-American Conference Office on Tuesday afternoon. Losby, a native of Bryan, Ohio, led the Falcons by batting .333 (4-12) on the weekend. Losby also contributed four RBI and three runs scored, inlcuding a solo homerun in Saturday’s contest. The weekly award for Losby is the first of his career. More Bowling Green Notes
3. The Chippewas had 12 players maker their CMU debut last weekend, including three pitchers and nine position players. The group included five true freshman, three redshirt freshman and four junior college transfers. After a week of play, plenty of names sit atop the leaderboards in the MAC statistically, including Jordan Adams (hits), Nick Regnier (home runs, RBI, total bases), Zack Fields (doubles) and Logan Regnier (triples and stolen bases). 4. Eastern Michigan came away with a series split in its opening series against Campbell, Feb. 15, dropping the first game of a doubleheader, 8-2, before rebounding for a 10-6 win in the nightcap. One could forgive a transfer student thrust into the action in his first weekend to look a bit rusty at the plate and in the field. But for junior catcher Adam Sonabend, his first two games in an EMU uniform have shown the import from Mesa C.C. might already be in mid-season form. Sonabend went 5-for-7 over the weekend including 4-for-4 with four RBI in Eastern Michigan's 10-6 win over the Fighting Camels. For his efforts, Sonabend was named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office, Feb. 19. More Eastern Michigan Notes
5. The Golden Flashes (0-4) will look to brush off early season errors they committed in their opening weekend and tighten down on pitching.  In their first four games, Kent State totaled 14 errors and walked 20 batters while hitting ten. However, offense was no problem for Kent State.  Through four games they are out-hitting opponents 47-40.  Seven players on the team had five or more hits on the weekend; eleven registered at least one. Kent State's starting rotation will look similiar, with Tyler Skulina in the No. 1 spot, followed by Casey Wilson and Taylor Williams on Saturday.  Williams was named MAC East Pitcher of the Week for his 7.0 inning, one hit, one run performance in his first outing.  Sunday's starter is TBD. More Kent State Notes
6. Miami (0-2) dropped a pair of games last weekend, falling to Northwestern 8-1 in the Friday opener and to Furman 6-5 on Sunday. In between, a scheduled matchup with Michigan State was postponed by snow. Senior Alex Johnson leads Miami with a .375 average (3-of-8). He hit safely in both games, including a three-run homer against the Paladins. Senior Kevin Bower is the only other RedHawk over .300 with two hits in six at-bats. He had an RBI single in the opening game. On the mound, Miami will stay with the same rotation as it planned last week. Senior Brooks Fiala (0-1, 3.00 ERA) will open on Friday, while senior Mac Thoreson (0-1, 6.75) will pitch the second game. Sophomore Nathan Williams, who got bumped from a starting spot because of last week’s cancellation, will finish the weekend. More Miami Notes
7. NIU Junior Jeff Zimmerman was named to the Brooks Wallace Memorial Classic all-tournament team after batting .500 (6-for-12) at the plate with a .571 on-base percentage last week. Senior Jamison Wells stepped one base closer to the all-time stolen bases record at NIU with his stolen base versus Brigham Young (Feb. 16). Five freshman pitchers combined for 13.1 innings pitched and a 1.22 WHIP last weekend, led by Jordan Ruckman’s six-inning performance against BYU. More Northern Illinois Notes

8. Ohio (0-2) returns to action on Friday as it heads to Greenville, N.C. for the start of the 2013 Keith LeClair Classic. The Bobcats will face Illinois (10 a.m.) and New Mexico State (2 p.m.) on Friday. On Saturday, Ohio will meet Boston College (10 a.m.). The 2013 Keith LeClair Classic will be held at Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium on the campus of East Carolina University. Sophomore Jake Madsen led the Bobcats offensively last weekend as he went 3-for-7 and drove in one run. Madsen also hit a team-best .667 with runners in scoring position. More Ohio Notes

9. Toledo (1-1) returns to the diamond this weekend against No. 25 Virginia (4-0) in a three-game series at Davenport Field. The opening pitch on Friday, Feb. 22 is slated for 3:00 p.m., while the contests on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23-24, will begin at 1:00 p.m. The Rockets opened their 2013 campaign last weekend, as UT claimed a 3-1 victory against Delaware and dropped an 8-7 decision to La Salle. Sophomore 3B Anthony Smith led the Rockets' offensive attack with a .500 (4-for-8) average, including three hits in the season opener against the Explorers. Junior C James Miglin and senior CF Ben Hammer also enjoyed a good season-opening weekend swinging the bats, hitting .375 (3-for-8) and .333 (2-for-6, 3 walks), respectively. More Toledo Notes
