INDIANA HOOSIERS PRESS RELEASE

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Indiana University baseball team (2-1) pounded out 12 runs on 12 hits versus South Florida (1-2) on Sunday, securing a `2-out-of-3' weekend to kick start the 2013 season. Indiana's 12-2 victory included all nine Hoosiers in the lineup either driving in a run or scoring one.

The offensive outburst overshadowed a pitching gem from IU starter Kyle Hart. After spending seven pitchers in Saturday night's 15-inning game against Connecticut, the Hoosiers desperately needed a long outing from Hart and they received just that from the Cincinnati southpaw. He scattered 10 hits through seven innings, offering up just one earned run and two tallies in total to earn the `W.' Scoreless innings from relievers Brian Korte and Christian Morrisclosed things outs.

Now, back to the red-hot bats. Indiana lit the scoreboard a dozen times, due in large part to Kyle Schwarber's four runs batted in. Scott Donley wasn't far behind, driving in three scores of his own. Meanwhile, Sam Travis' three-double day elevated his weekend batting average to .583, slugging percentage to 1.167 and an OBP of .706. And it wouldn't be right to leave Dustin DeMuth'stwo-hit, two-RBI performance unmentioned as well.

Following 12 consecutive scoreless innings to conclude Saturday's defeat and three goose eggs to begin Sunday, Indiana's offense flipped the switch in the fourth frame. South Florida's starting pitcher was chased out of the game after the first three runs and Chad Clark's RBI-double notched run number four before the third out was recorded.

The Bulls posted a two-run response in the home half before being drilled for three more scores in the subsequent half inning. Indiana would tag on five more runs before day's end, including a three-run bomb by Schwarber in the eighth.

Indiana heads south again next weekend for a three-game set at Georgia Southern. The GSU Eagles are coming off a series victory over #29 Georgia.
