BEREA, Ky. - The Indiana University East men's basketball team clinched a top-four
seed and a home quarterfinal game for the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference tournament with a 91-83 comeback win at Berea College on Feb. 15.
The NAIA Division II No. 29 Red Wolves improved to 19-9 overall and 9-4 in the KIAC.
Berea fell to 15-14 overall and 7-7 in the KIAC. IU East is guaranteed to host a
KIAC tournament quarterfinal game on Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. at Earlham College.
"Any time you can come on the road and get a conference win in a tough environment,
it's a good sign for our maturation process," said IU East coach Mark Hester.
"It's a credit to our guys. In the second half we tightened up on defense (limiting
Berea to 29 percent shooting), and that will get it done. We've just got to
understand that we've got to have that kind of effort all of the time."
Senior guard Marcus Isaac (Indianapolis, Ind./Purdue University North Central) led
IU East with 28 points on just 14 shots.
"He was hitting shots, breaking people down off the dribble, and just really carried
the load on offense," said freshman guard Jeff Hopper (Plainfield, Ind./Cascade High
IU East went on a 27-9 run in the second half to turn a 65-58 deficit into an 85-74
lead with less than four minutes remaining.
Berea would get within four with 1:45 to go, but freshman guard Nick Bollenbacher
(Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central High School) scored on a drive with a minute
remaining to halt the Mountaineers' comeback climb.
"We just picked it up on defense," Hopper said. "At halftime we talked about what we
needed to do on defense. We had a lot of intensity and that led to offense and a lot
of easy points.
"It was a good learning process. We were down at halftime and came back and fought
and won the game. It showed we can come back from adversity. We've just got to keep

game by making 9 of 14 attempts from long range (.643).
IU East concludes its road trip with a KIAC game at Alice Lloyd College on Feb. 16.
