NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's basketball team fell 98-93 on
Feb. 8 at Indiana University Southeast in a matchup of the top two teams in the
Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings.
The NAIA Division II No. 33 Red Wolves fell to 18-9 (8-4 KIAC). The NAIA Division II
No. 8 Grenadiers are 20-4 overall and 10-1 in the KIAC.
It's the closest IU East has come to winning at IU Southeast since joining the NAIA.
The Red Wolves mounted a determined rally after falling behind by 15 points at 64-49
with about 15 minutes remaining.
IU East got the deficit down to two on two occasions in the final three minutes, but
couldn't convert a tying or go-ahead shot.
"Credit to our kids for not getting down and coming back and playing hard even
though we got down big," said IU East coach Mark Hester.
Freshman guards Vasha Davis (Hammond, Ind./Morton High School) and Nick Bollenbacher
(Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central High School) both posted their career highs. Davis
led IU East with 22 points. Bollenbacher added 18.
Sophomore guard Huston Clark (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo High School) posted a
double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Kevin Mitchell led IU Southeast with 28 points.
Grenadiers guard Matt Trimnell, who played two seasons at IU East, scored six points.
IU East plays at KIAC opponent Berea College on Feb. 15. Tipoff time is 7 p.m. The
Red Wolves are a half-game ahead of Berea, Cincinnati Christian and Asbury in the
race for second place in the KIAC standings.
