ODU QB sets D-I record with 730 passing yards

Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke had already won back-to-back Colonial Athletic Association player of the week awards before Saturday.
After OD's 64-61 win over New Hampshire in the CAA opener for both teams, odds are Heinicke earned himself another award.
That is, unless someone trumps his jaw-dropping stat line of 730 yards on 55-of-79 passing.
Heinicke set an NCAA Division I record for passing yards. Former Houston quarterback David Klingler held the previous D-I record, throwing for 716 yards against Arizona State on Dec. 2, 1990.
But Heinicke is no Sam Durley.
Durley, of Division III Eureka (Ill.) College, set the NCAA single-game mark with 736 passing yards earlier this year.
That was D-III, though.
Heinicke set new school records for completions (55), attempts (79), and passing yards (730).
The crazy part is New Hampshire almost won despite Heinicke's breakout game. New Hampshire (2-2) dominated the CAA's top-ranked defense throughout the first three quarters, racking up over 600 total yards and taking a 54-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
