VOLLEYBALL
NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The Indiana University East volleyball team opened pursuit of its
third regular season Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season
title in four years with a pair of league wins on Sept. 8 at Indiana University
Southeast.
The 23rd-ranked Red Wolves (12-0, 10-0) opened their day with a 25-13, 25-9, 25-12
win against Saint Louis College of Pharmacy (1-2, 0-2).
IU East then won 25-12, 25-19, 25-19 against tri-match host IU Southeast (5-4, 2-1).
"Today was a great team showing for our first conference play," said senior middle
hitter Breezy Strete. "We played very steady and strong against Saint Louis and kept
the pressure on them. Against IU Southeast we were extremely defensive. Wack (senior
libero Kristin Waechter) and her defensive players really came to play this weekend.
Our setters were given great options and our hitters were able to execute.
"These were some great total team wins to put a name for ourselves out there in the
conference. We want a message sent out that we're back and even better than last
year, and today was a great introduction to our story."
Sophomore setter Lindsay Kurz (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran High School) posted a
career-high 22 assists against Saint Louis College of Pharmacy.
IU East returns to action Sept. 14 and 15 at the Olivet Nazarene University
