Tre Roberson started the scoring with two touchdowns on the ground, a new career mark, one on a 50-yard run and the other from 39 yards out in the first quarter. Roberson later found Shane Wynn for a five-yard touchdown pass as IU led 21-6 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was much of the same as Mitch Ewald connected on a 19-yard field goal before a pair of rushing TDs from Stephen Houston and Isaish Roundtree gave IU a 38-6 lead at the half. Both of those drives were guided by quarterback Cameron Coffmanwho completed 8-of-11 passes for 92 yards in his first two drives as a Hoosier quarterback. With Indiana holding a 38-6 lead at halftime, it marked the highest point total in a half for the Hoosiers since Sept. 2, 2010 (38 vs. Towson, first half). Indiana's final score came on a Coffman 12-yard pass to Charles Love III in the fourth quarter, marking Coffman's first career touchdown pass and Love III's first career touchdown reception. "The reason we scored so many points was the defense, because they kept getting the offense the ball," head coach Kevin Wilson said. "The defense is playing better. We are faster and we are a little bit better with conditioning and recruiting, but we are a lot better in knowing what we are doing, playing faster and rallying to the ball." Indiana totaled 611 yards of offense for the day, marking the first time IU had surpassed 600 offensive yards since Oct. 6, 2001 at Wisconsin (631 yards). Of that total, 321 yards came on the ground for the highest rushing total in a single game for IU since Oct. 29, 2011 against Northwestern. On the defensive side of the ball IU held UMass to just 196 total yards, marking the first time IU had held an opponent under 200 yards since Nov. 15, 2008 against Penn State. Kenny Mullen and David Cooper both set career highs in tackles as both defenders finished the game with eight total tackles each, to lead the team. Defensive back Tim Bennett recorded his first career sack for an 11-yard loss midway through the fourth quarter as defensive end Ryan Phillis tallied the first sack of his career with a six-yard loss during the third quarter. Coffman paced the Hoosier passing attack completing 16-of-22 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown pass. He finished with a completion percentage of 72.7 percent for the game. "I felt comfortable out there and I wasn't too nervous," Coffman said. "I think it went pretty well but there is a lot I can improve on. I am going to go watch the film of the game, continue to get more comfortable out there and continue to get better." Cody Latimer led the Hoosiers in receiving with a career-high 68 yards on five catches. Roberson led the rushing attack with 114 yards on 5 carries. Freshman running back Tevin Coleman set career marks rushing for 86 yards on 14 carries, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. The Hoosiers will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15 as Ball State will visit Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. That game will begin at 8 p.m. ET on BTN.
