Andrew Luck was a redshirt freshman Sept. 4, 2009, the eve of his first start at quarterback for Stanford at Washington State.
He was restless in Pullman, Wash.
“I remember not sleeping very well the night before and realizing I hadn’t been hit in like a year and a half,” the Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback said Wednesday.
Flash-forward to Sunday, when Luck makes his NFL debut against the Bears at Chicago’s Soldier Field.
“I hope I get some good sleep (the night before),” he said. “We’ll see. I can’t guarantee it. I’m sure I’ll be a little anxious, a little nervous.”
But ready or not, the Colts’ Luck era looms. It figures to be ushered in with a combination of butterflies, optimism and expectations.
First-year coach Chuck Pagano has no doubt his rookie QB will be “anxious, just like everybody else.”
The former Baltimore defensive coordinator recalled the weekly routine of Ravens veteran outside linebacker Terrell Suggs.
