Home » Football NewsIndiana football: Season predictions, three players to watchAugust 26, 2012 Eastern Indiana SportsIndiana kicks off its season Sept. 1 at home against Indiana State. The Hoosiers enter the second season of Kevin Wilson's tenure in Bloomington and will be looking to do better than last year's one-win output. Three Players to Watch:Jason Spriggs, OT: Tackles aren’t often on these lists, but Spriggs, a true freshman from Elkhart, Ind. (Concord High School), is expected to be the starter on the left side. That’s a tall order for any freshman, especially one preparing to face a Big Ten schedule. Stephen Houston, RB: Even though he was demoted to the No. 2 tailback behind freshman Tevin Coleman in the latest depth chart because of a less than inspiring preseason camp, Houston will ultimately be IU’s workhorse. He gained 802 yards and scored eight touchdowns last season and is IU’s most explosive player. David Cooper, LB: One of seven junior college transfers on defense, Cooper is expected to be the starter at middle linebacker. That makes him the captain of the defense and he’s just a sophomore with three years of eligibility. He and fellow juco transfer Jacarri Alexander could be immediate impact players.
