Union County made school history and Ryleigh Waltz made herself right at home Saturday at Highland Lake.
Waltz fired a 3-under 69 — a personal best for the UC standout — and the Patriots shot a school-record 328 to win the annual Bi-County girls golf tournament.
Three of the top five individual spots went to Patriots. Waltz was the medalist, while teammates Maureen Miller and Breeanna McClure finished third and fifth individually.
“Having three scores in the top five is amazing. I’m so proud of my team,” Waltz said.
“I’ve been working a lot on my short game this past week because I’ve been struggling a lot with it. All my hard work paid off today. It’s very rewarding.”
Very impressive, too, as Waltz carded a 36 on the front nine and a 33 on the back.
That back-nine score included a stretch of three birdies and an eagle on No. 17. This was her third straight medalist honor at this event.
