Home » Football NewsGoodell on Brees comments: My responsibility is the game of footballAugust 3, 2012 Eastern Indiana SportsNFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is going to be in Canton for the Hall of Fame ceremonies and Hall of Fame Game this weekend, which means he’ll be in the same city as Saints quarterback Drew Brees. In an interview with Peter King of SI.com, Brees said that nobody trusts Goodell and that the one-year suspension of Saints coach Sean Payton was “completely ridiculous.” Brees tried to walk the comments back later in the week and the NFL didn’t offer any response, but it came up when Goodell dropped in on Mike Florio’s final day hosting The Dan Patrick Show and Florio asked about Brees’ assertion that no one trusts him. “My responsibility is the game of football,” Goodell said. “You have to continue to do what’s best for the game and the integrity of the game. Those [decisions] aren’t always going to be popular.”
