Area golfers ready to begin season

It seems to be another year of top players — and top teams — in area prep girls golf when the players tee off Monday, highlighted by the annual Richmond Invitational at Highland Lake Golf Course.

When discussing the prep girls season, a good place to start is north into Randolph County with Winchester’s Golden Falcons.

The defending Tri-Eastern Conference champions return three solid standouts for third-year coach Missy Williams, with two promising freshmen joining the cast for an expected strong season.

Seniors Jill Morrison and Mallory Chalfant will be joined by sophomore Mackenzie Mehaffey to form a strong trio and lead the Falcon charge.

Freshmen Jalisa Rush and Keslyn Harris are expected among the top five players as the Falcons begin a string of 18-hole invitationals during this coming week.
