Home » Athletics News#NBCfail: Olympics lead-in spills results ahead of broadcastJuly 28, 2012 Eastern Indiana SportsWe'll likely be seeing the "#NBCfail" a great deal in the coming weeks, with the network opting not to air the day's biggest events live, instead holding them until primetime, on tape delay. Well, less than 24 hours after the opening ceremony and the hashtag has made its first cameo. NBC's Bob Costas opened Saturday's NBC primetime broadcast by noting that primetime coverage is taped, which was sort of inevitable given that 8:00 p.m. ET is 1:00 a.m. local time in London. And Costas added there'll be no so-called spoiler alerts - warnings to viewers that the network is about to report event results. Only, it was too late. NBC's Olympics lead-in, the Nightly News, led off with anchor Brian Williams announcing the results of the much-anticipated men's swimming 400 IM final, without even providing a spoiler alert.
