Cincinnati Bengals officials were not exactly sure what to expect Friday as the team opened training camp for the first time ever in downtown Cincinnati.
What they got was a near-capacity crowd north of 1,500 fans, the first of which showed up at the Paul Brown Stadium plaza ticket window at 5:30 a.m.
“The first two folks I met this morning, one had driven seven hours from Asheville, N.C.., with his teenage son, and another fan came up from Atlanta to go to every practice every this weekend,” said Jeff Berding, the Bengals director of sales and public affairs.
“There’s been a lot of work since December on bringing training camp to downtown to Cincinnati,” Berding added. “We’re very excited with how everything has gone for the football team, which is obviously the first order of business, and certainly for our fans.”
