MLB SUNDAY PREVIEWS

July 15, 2012
Eastern Indiana Sports

The surging Cincinnati Reds, who have won five straight and are tied for first in the National League Central, will vie for a sweep of the rival St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night. Cincinnati matched its season high by going 11 games over .500 after Saturday’s 3-2 walkoff win. Cincinnati is making hay at home, posting a 25-16 mark, with eight games left on this homestand. A win Sunday also would give the Reds a 5-4 lead in the season series with St. Louis.

The Cardinals, who sit 3 1/2 games back of the Reds and Pirates, have stranded 22 runners in the series. All-Star catcher Yadier Molina continues to be a bright spot. He hit his 14th homer Saturday, matching the career high he set last year. Molina’s shot marked the 67th straight game at Great American Ball Park with at least one homer, the longest such streak since Coors Field saw 80 straight with a homer in 2002-03.
