Player Rankings: MLB's best at midway point

First comes the midway point, and then comes the All-Star rumpus. And that means it's time for sober reflections upon the first half of the 2012 season.
In this particular cranny of the unblinking CBS eye, that means we're going to rank the best pitchers and position players based on their performances over the first three-plus months of the season.
We're not dividing up American Leaguers and National Leaguers (it's all one big, heaping pile of ballplayers), and unlike, say, MVP and Cy Young voters, we're not going to penalize or reward a player for the quality of his teammates. The heck with the "narrative" and all that.
How does Josh Hamilton rate these days? Did the 19-year-old Next Big Thing make it? What about the 20-year-old? How many snubbed All-Stars on the list? Whether position player or pitcher, who is doing his job the best of all in 2012? That's the question before us. And these are the answers ...
