COLLEGE FOOTBALL'S ODDS AND ENDS
July 1, 2012
Eastern Indiana SportsQUARTERBACK BATTLES
College football will have some interesting quarterback battles this season. These will be the top five:
- OREGON. 2011 back-up Bryan Bennett will battle redshirt freshman Marcus Mariota. Mariota had the better spring game showing Dennis Dixon like style. If Oregon makes the right decision, this could mean a chance at a national championship.
- NOTRE DAME. Tommy Rees has the most experience and the most arrests. Andrew Hendrix perhaps has more skills to run the spread offense. Everett Golson is a dual threat and Gunner Kiel is the superstar incoming freshman.
- BOISE STATE. Kellen Moore is gone as the winningest QB in college football history. Joe Southwick is expected to be Moore’s replacement. Nick Patti is a true freshman who one day may challenge Moore’s all time record. Sophomore Grant Hedrick and redshirt freshman Jimmy Laughrea is also in the mix.
- FLORIDA. The Gators will keep looking at the battle between Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel. Driskel is the more mobile QB. Head coach Will Muschamp feels the Gators will win with either one.
- TEXAS. Though Coach Mack Brown won’t talk, the QB battle is between David Ash and Case McCoy.
