Andrean batters Morghyn Neal (11), Nicole Steinbach (12), Brenna Boyle (10), and Johnee Rodish (12) each capitalized in the inning with an RBI. The 59ers carried the momentum into the second inning, scoring two more runs off RBIs by Neal and Boyle. Edgewood got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning with singles from Emily Calvin (12) and Sydney Brinegar (10). The duo then advanced to home on RBIs by Rachel Delay (12) and Cayce Thomas (12). Taking the mound for Andrean was Nicole Steinbach (12). The senior went the distance, giving up two runs on six hits. She concluded her senior campaign with a 25-2 record. Leading the 59ers at the plate was Boyle with three hits and two RBIs and Kaitlin Barajas (12) with three hits and two runs. Savannah Kinsella (11) also had a big day with two hits and two RBIs. The Mustangs, coached by Mick Hammett, finished the year at 21-12, while Andrean, coached by Brooke Baker Runyon concluded with a 27-4 record. This is Baker Runyon’s first state championship as a coach; as a student-athlete, she played an integral role for Lake Central’s state championship team in 2002. Edgewood’s Rachel Delay wins Mental Attitude Award Rachel recently graduated as co-valedictorian of her senior class. She will study pre-med next year at Indiana University.
