MARION, Ind. - Indiana University East's track and field program claimed two of the
top 14 spots in the men's long jump competition at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field
Championships on May 25 at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Redshirt freshman Josiah Lemons (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School) was ninth with
a season-best leap of 7.14 meters (about 23-5).
Freshman Brandon Muncie (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North High School) was 14th
with a jump of 7.06 (about 23-2), his second-best of the season.
Lemons and Muncie were the first IU East track and field athletes to compete at the
NAIA national championships.
Lemons' finish is the best individual finish at an NAIA national competition for any
Red Wolves athlete.
Lemons uncorked his best jump on his third and final jump of the preliminary round
to advance to the 10-athlete finals.
Muncie's best jump came on his second jump of the day.
Ronnie Taylor of Hastings won the event with a jump of 7.87 meters (about 25-10).
