RICHMOND, Ky. - Indiana University East redshirt freshman Joey Smart won medal
honors in a playoff to help the Red Wolves men's golf team to a second-place finish
at the Berea College Spring Tee-Off at Battlefield Golf Club.
Smart finished with a two-day score of 143 on the par 72, 6,263-yard layout. It's
the lowest 36-hole individual score in IU East's NAIA men's golf history.
Smart (Brookville, Ind./Morehead State University) shot 69 in the final round to
force the playoff against Asbury University's Daniel Gibbons. Smart won the playoff
on the second hole when he made par on the par-3 second hole.
IU East finished with a two-day team score of 647, 15 shots behind tournament
champion Asbury in the five-team field.
Freshman Levi Gough (Lynn, Ind./Randolph Southern High School) and shot 164 and
freshman Cameron Cox (Farmland, Ind./Monroe Central High School) shot 165 to join
Smart on the all-tournament team.
IU East competes April 9 and 10 at the Taylor University Invitational at Purdue
University's Kampen Course.
