Allison Gutierrez of Decatur and Natasha VanGilder or Crown Point have signed
letters of intent to play volleyball for Indiana University East starting with the
2012 season.

Red Wolves coach Charlie Brown announced the signings March 5.

Gutierrez is a 5-6 defensive specialist who helped Bellmont High School win the 2010
Indiana Class 3A state championship.

She was an honorable mention academic all-state selection and an all-conference
libero as a senior.

She ranked 13th in the state with 4.5 digs per game.

"Allison is a high-level defensive player who comes from a high school that is rich
in volleyball tradition," Brown said.

"We were most impressed with her serve receive. She has a unique signature habit
that you'll have to look for when you come to watch her play! In addition to being
solid in serve receive she has a great jump serve and does a nice job of reading the
court. Allison will no doubt come in and complement a hungry defensive backcourt in
2012."

VanGilder is a 6-1 middle hitter from Crown Point High School, a Class 4A program in
northwest Indiana.

She led the Bulldogs in solo blocks as a senior and was her team's blocker of the year.

"Natasha is just a great fit for our program and has the potential to be a
high-level performer," Brown said.

"She will provide us with the necessary depth in the front row this season. In
addition to possessing all the tools that we look for in a good middle, she will be
mentored by two of the best middles in our conference (current Red Wolves Breezy
Strete and Caitlin Burroughs) which will make her game even that much stronger! We
believe Natasha has what it takes to become both an impact player and an outstanding
student for us here at IU East."

IU East is an NAIA program. IU East advanced to the NAIA national tournament in each
of the past three seasons and is one of just seven programs in the NAIA to win 30 or
more matches in each of the past three seasons.
