PURDUE:Gonzalez-Escallon Named Big Ten Golfer Of The Week

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue junior Laura Gonzalez-Escallon earned the third Big Ten Golfer of the Week Award of her career by finishing tied for second with a one-under par 215 at the 2012 Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday.

The La Hulpe, Belgium, native tied a school and tournament record by firing a tournament-low 65 in the second round. She recorded 75s in the opening and closing rounds for her total of 215.

It is the first Golfer of the Week Award this year for Gonzalez-Escallon and the second for the season for Purdue. Paula Reto was honored on Nov. 3, 2011, after winning the Landfall Tradition.

The Boilermakers finished in sixth place at the tournament they have hosted for 10 years in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

Purdue returns to action March 9 to 11 at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La.
