Barbers Hill Eagles

Denny is the Man

Head Coach: Ronnie Gage

2011 Overall Record -- 9-2

Postseason: Fell in the Regional Semifinals

By Matt Malatesta

Football is a team game, but at the high school level teams can ride a superstar deep into the playoffs. See Dekaney's Trey Williams and Hightower's Bralon Addison from a year ago.

One of the city's top headlines in 2012 will be Barbers Hill quarterback Caleb Denny, who was his district's Player of the Year on the title-winning team. The 6-foot-2 Denny continues to improve, but he's also a tremendous baseball prospect, which cuts into his offseason.

With Denny leading the offense and get plenty of protection from the likes of Dillon Bergstrom, Austin Knotts, Matt Tillett and Kade Parker on the line. He will pass to tight ends Pressley Hilliard, Wes Cauley, Ryan Brock and Trey Dobson.

On defense, Garrett Dolan is a prototypical outside linebacker and will lead the defense with stealth safety Rylan Dutton.

Barbers Hill will make the playoffs even as they were hit hard by graduation. The season really rests on Caleb Denny's arm, but he could take this district by storm. Having an experienced offensive line is key, but the Eagles need a running back who can slip through holes and make something out of nothing. They also need a big-play speed back.
