Home » Baseball NewsEagles fall to MoreheadApril 12, 2011 By Calvin Walters of Eastern Alamance High SchoolMorehead used a fifth run seventh inning to break open a close game as the Eagles (10-4, 8-3) fell 9-3 at home on Tuesday. The Panthers are the only team to beat Eastern Alamance twice this season. Both teams scored two runs to open the game with Blake Gilliam and Michael Waters both coming around to score for the Eagles. Morehead answered in the second inning thanks to an Eagle error to retake the lead for good. The Panthers would add to the lead in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 4-2. Eastern Alamance struggled all night with timely hits, leaving 12 men on base, including the bases loaded three times. The Eagles finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth when pinch hitter Zack Littell stroked a single to centerfield to score Ryan Couch who had doubled to lead off the inning. EA would load the bases on an intentional walk to Nick Monroe, one of two to the junior, but a fielder's choice groundout ended the threat. Morehead would tack on five runs in the seventh inning on four hits. Nick Monroe started the game for the Eagles going six innings, allowing eight runs (5 earned) on 9 hits, striking out 8. Ryan Couch finished the game out for the Eagles who will travel to McMichael on Thursday.
