Eagles Roll into 4th Round

November 28, 2009
By Calvin Walters of Eastern Alamance High School

Eastern Alamance used a strong defensive performance and a potent offense to down the host Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders 28-0.  Lamar Ivey, Elliot Powell and Javonte Ellison all had touchdowns for the Eagles on the way to advancing to the fourth round for the second time in four years.

After the Eagles defense forced a three and out EA marched down the field and Elliot Powell took a handoff up the middle for an early touchdown.  Tripp Hupman added the first of four PAT's to open a 7 point advantage.

On the next Eagles possesion Lamar Ivey took a quarterback keeper up the middle before cutting to the outside and rushing 77 yards for the second touchdown on the night.  Later in the second quarter Javonte Ellison took a pitch from Ivey and scampered to the outside and into the endzone for a 21-0 lead heading into halftime.

Neither team scored in the third quarter and the Eastern Alamance defense stopped two Crusaders fourth down attempts deep in Eagles territory to preserve the shutout.

In the fourth quarter Javonte Ellison caught a pass on the right side of the field and made his way into the endzone for the final score of the night, capping a 99 yard drive.

Eastern Alamance will travel to Havelock High School next week.  The Rams defeated Hertford County 29-22 Friday night.
