When the leaves begin to change in the fall the Woodlands Preparatory School senior, Andee Nelson, will be travelling a somewhat 1,200 miles to Marquette University for some D-1 soccer time.
Though Marquette was thrown onto the table a little bit later than New Mexico State, Colorado School of Mines, Davidson but thanks to a soccer tournament Nelson was able to visit the campus and visit with the soccer program.
“I really liked the campus and they came to watch me…I went on my official visit and loved it. I committed,” Nelson said.
The senior did miss out on her spring soccer season due to a torn PCL and meniscus. As for training Nelson has had to lay off on much of the running her sport requires but is still working out what she can.
“I work my core a lot. It’s more working on my strength at the moment rather than conditioning,” Nelson admitted.
“My injury really just stopped me from working on any of my lower body but since then Derrick [Jonkins] has worked with me and now I am able to do my quads and hamstrings.”
The future mechanical engineering major is going to be a long way from home but no worries here Nelson assures.
“I’m just really excited to get to know everyone and play division one soccer. That was always my big thing. It’s what I wanted to do.”
