Home » Football NewsScrimmage Proves Beneficial Despite The WeatherAugust 21, 2010 Decatur High SchoolWhile the Decatur vs. Holy Innocents scrimmage did not go beyond the first half due to weather, the occasion was productive to say the least. Both teams were able to get some work in as they prepare to kick the regular season off next week. There were positive takeaways for each team, but as with any preseason game, both sides will more than likely focus on areas they feel need more work. It is safe to say all in attendance looked forward to the second half - especially the Decatur faithful who came out and watched their defense play in a way that was Bulldog-like and then some. The ball seemed to be a bone to the Bulldog D, and they got to it multiple times with good pursuit, solid hitting, and as a result: 3 Holy Innocents fumbles. Decatur led by a score of 7-0 at halftime - the game was called before the second half could begin. ![]() Today was also a scrimmage of sorts for a new aspect of Decatur sports coverage. Led by Coach Rusty Bennett, the Bulldog Athletics program did a trial run of a live broadcast of the evening. Just like on the gridiron, there were some takeaways on how to make the remaining broadcasts even better and kink-free as the season rolls along. Before the game broadcast, festivities at the stadium entrance included giveaways, a trivia contest, as well as some Q & A with Decatur Baseball alum Nick Wilson, who will be heading off to Hofstra University (NY) shortly as he continues to take his career to the next level. ![]()
