For a countless number of former players, the chance to play football one more time is often just a dream, the opportunity to put on pads and strap a helmet just a distant memory.

That desire however, is helping fuel the possibility of allowing former players to relive their past glory days on the gridiron once more.

The idea which became a reality in 1985, could be coming to Washington County in the near future.

The program, known as Alumni Football USA, and David Crockett High School are in the early stages of planning an alumni football game for past Pioneers.

If enough former players are interested, the game would be hosted at Crockett and put on by AFUSA.

The organization which was founded in 1985 by Bob Cazet, provides all the equipment, facility liability insurance, and game day crew, with players wishing to participate required to pay a fee.

Former high school coaches, current coaches and even participants have coached teams taking part in past alumni games.

The games will be played in accordance to high school rules with four, 12-minute quarters.

Five formal practices will be scheduled for individuals wishing to participate with the possibility of informal practices preceding the five required.

Team meetings will also precede the practice dates. The opponent will be decided based on the interest of alumni from other surrounding high schools.

Cazet created the program after realizing so many former players shared his dream of taking the field in full pads and full contact one more time. The program which hosts games all over the country has put on over 1,000 games, with 70,000 participants.

The program has also acted as a great fundraiser for schools, helping to raise over $230,000 since 2009 through ticket sales and concessions.

The event has been a community success in the past with over 350,000 fans attending games across the country since 2009.

For this event to become a reality there must be enough alumni interested in participating.
