WELCOME TO DAVID CROCKETT HIGH SCHOOL David Crockett High School is located in Jonesborough, Tennessee. It is one of two high schools in the Washington County, Tennessee School System and serves the southern part of the county. The first graduating class was awarded diplomas in 1972. Enrollment as of 2005 was over 1,400 students. Students start from five elementary/middle schools: Jonesborough Middle, Grand View Elementary, West View Elementary, Lamar Elementary, and South Central Elementary. The school colors are brown and old gold and the mascot is the Pioneers.
The school was named after the celebrated 19th-century American folk hero, frontiersman, soldier and politician; referred to as David (Davy) Crockett (August 17, 1786 - March 6, 1836) and often by the popular title "King of the Wild Frontier." His nickname was the stuff of legends, but in life he shunned the title "Davy" and referred to himself exclusively as "David." He represented Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives, served in the Texas Revolution, and died at the Battle of the Alamo.
