During Jeff Wickersham’s long twelve years of coaching basketball for many age groups, he has seen many teams come and go. And of them all this year’s girls basketball team has him the most excited. Compared to previous years, this year’s team is by far the most experienced team he has ever coached which, in turn, leads to more expectations for the team to reach. One of those high expectations is to finally win a sectional.
When asked if the team will be ready to see their four seniors go at the end of the season, he replied, “They [the seniors] will be difficult to replace because of all their experience and leadership on the team. It won’t be easy, but it can be done.” Since one of Coach Wickersham’s favorite things about coaching is helping the players become better, I have no doubt that the underclassmen on the team will step up and meet the challenge of filling the seniors’ shoes next year.
