Atlanta, GA-- Once, again a new season has approached us, and we focus on the development of player personal basketball skills, as well as club team's that want to get work in on the offseason.  Last year's Georgia State champions 14u Heat Check Coach Jerome Weaver told D1Spects, "The D-League is important, because it allows us to develop our team chemisty, and prepare for the up-coming AAU Season."

Last weekend, we witnessed a very good War-Town Warriors team battle against 14u Heat Check in overtime, and edge out the All-Stars White in overtime with Marquez Calloway getting a key steal to put the game away 62-59.

While the Georgia State Champions, were getting runs in.  The number two team in the country Georgia Stars are back to business with Aaron Augustin leading the way. Let's take a look at last weekend's developing players.

Aaron Augustin G 14u Georgia Stars (2016) Aaron has been improving on finishing tough baskets in traffic, and his verticle.  Last weekend we watched Augustin soar high over the rim, and take control of the Georgia Stars offense.

Marquez Calloway WF War-Town Warriors has improved his defensive presence, and made several key defensive stops against Heat Check, and All-Stars Blue.  He also dialed up a nice stretch of mid-range jumpshots.

Rei Adams War-Town Warriors- A late spark off the bench, Rei displayed last weekend that he knows how to score in bunches.  Very active around the wing.

Savian Griffin-Bey (Duluth Elite) One of the better point guards in the high school divison.  is very quick with the basketball, and a savvy defender. Needs to dominate these games a little bit better on both sides of the ball.  Made some tough baskets

Bradley Mccurdy PG Heat Check- As a point guard, Mccurdy displayed a lot more confidence with the ball, and even stepped up to hit big plays.  Still needs to control his game, and work on the defensive side of the ball.  Something to watch this year, is how Mccurdy steps up against bigger stronger guards in the D-League.

Christian Turner PG Heat Check- Another savvy point guard, that was able to use his high basketball IQ to control the game.  This DLeague season, look for Turner to improve his jumpshot on a more consistent basis.

Karvan Tucker(Dacula Middle 2016) F 14u Heat Check- Tucker was one of the better scorers last weekend, and has a knack for taking over when his team is in trouble.  Tucker provided the spark for Heat Check on numerous occasions, and was able to become a threat inside and out.  Has a all-around game, and a natural scorer.

Obinna Ofodile 14u Heat Check- F  Ofodile is getting stronger and bigger as he becomes a threat in the low post. Is scoring consistently in the paint, and is strong rebounder.   Made a few two hand jams over defenders, and is quickly becoming a fan favorite to watch. Needs to continue to develop his mid-range game and all around game.

Spark off the Bench

The Spark off the Bench award has to go to John Parker from Duluth Elite.  Parker was able to find his range from beyond the arc, and bring back Duluth Elite into striking distance against Heat Check.  Needs to work on ball-handling, finishing in traffic.
