CHS Hall of Fame
Alumni Season Preview: Cameron Hobson
May 3, 2011Crawfordsville High School
Entering his junior season at Dayton University, 2008 Crawfordsville graduate Cameron Hobson has both a great deal of success to look back upon and much more to look forward to.
In his CHS career, Hobson racked up the accolades on the hill and with the bat. His 51 career doubles are third all time in the state of Indiana. In 2008, he recorded a 0.47 ERA with 126 K's in just 59 innings. He did so as the ace of an Athenian staff that amassed an incredible 397 strikeouts, good for third most in the state's history and the largest total since 1973.
In last spring's 2010 MLB Draft, the New York Yankees selected Hobson in the 37th round on a "draft-and-follow" basis. Pitching for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League, Cameron pitched 44 1/3 innings with a 2.44 ERA, collecting 27 strikeouts.
Q&A : Cameron Hobson (Dayton Flyers)
I've been working since this summer on my pitching delivery and have made quite a few adjustments. I'm hoping that leads to greater success this year on the mound.
My role as a leader on the team has gradually increased each year. This year I expect to be an example for my teammates both as a competitor and as a person.
What I learned at CHS as a baseball player, competitor, and person has helped me tremendously in my baseball career. The respect that all CHS teams have shown toward the game and the people involved in it is part of what makes it undoubtedly one of the best around. I am grateful to have been a part of such a class act program.
