Home » Baseball NewsOffense breaks out against NorthMay 16, 2012 Crawfordsville High SchoolThe Athenians improved to 18-8 (13-0 SAC) with an impressive 13-2 victory over North Montgomery (12-11) at home Tuesday evening. Crawfordsville chased Charger ace Shawn Verhey by the fourth inning with a strong offensive showing in the five-inning route.
Garrett Phelps ran his pitching record to 5-0 on the year with four innings, four strikeouts, and two earned runs, while Chandler Pursell came on with strong relief for the second straight night. Crawfordsville scored early and often, tabbing three in the first, two in the second, and four runs in each the third and fourth innings. Each time the Athenians had a chance for a pivotal hit, a different player seemed to come up with the swing. In the first, it was Jake Zurawski who came up with the key hit—a single to right field after walks to Caleb Rasmussen, Joel Hobson, and Chris Minks to start the game. In the second, Joel Hobson singled in two runs. In the third inning, Hobson again provided the offensive punch with a three-run double off the fence in right-center. In the fourth, it was a Logan Meadows double that scored two. Hobson led the attack with five runs batted in. Meanwhile, nine-hole hitter Alex Ehrlich scored three times and had two hits, reaching base in all three at-bats. Reeves and Rasmussen both reached base thrice and scored two times. Crawfordsville looks to complete a second consecutive undefeated season in the Sagamore Conference when they host the Frankfort Hot Dogs on senior night Friday at 6 o’clock. Saturday is Alumni Day, featuring a cookout, on-field pregame recognition of alumni prior to a game with the Covington Trojans. Monday wraps up the regular season with a game versus McCutcheon at Wabash College (5:30 p.m.) Journal Review: Athenians take another from Chargers Game Notes:
