Prep wrestling: SE Guilford claims title; E. Guilford pair wins

GIBSONVILLE — Southeast Guilford, buoyed by six individual champions, claimed the championship in the 19th annual Leigh Hebbard / Wildcat Invitational on Saturday at Eastern Guilford.

Southeast Guilford posted 221 points compared to 116 for runner-up Southwest Guilford. Eastern Guilford placed third with 113 1/2.

Eastern Guilford produced two individual champions, with 145-pounder Caleb Stanley winning the title bout by a 10-6 count against Southeast Guilford’s Robby Glaccum.

Earlier, Glaccum knocked off top-seeded Jack Snow of Graham. Snow ended up third.

Eastern Guilford’s other individual champion was Tim Johnson. He won the 195-pound final by technical fall against Southeast Guilford’s Trevor Rivera.

The Most Outstanding Wrestler award went to Southwest Guilford’s Peter Becher, who edged Southeast Guilford’s Bryant Halsch in the 152 final.

Eastern Guilford’s Tristen Zobro reached the 106, losing by a first-period pin against C.J. Tolbert of Southeast Guilford.

Western Alamance had three runners-up, with Nick Hill (138), Jacob Blanchard (160) and John Holder (220) all pin victims in the finals to Southeast Guilford opponents (Pierson Fields, Tykil Florence, C.J. McThay).

Among area wresters capturing third place were Cummings High School’s Froylan Sosa (113), Ryan Adam (170) and Ricardo Guerrero (285), Eastern Guilford’s Ryan Williams (132), Danny Ochoa (160), Willie Bivens (182) and Corbin Revels (220) and Western Alamance’s Korion Westbrooks (152).
