Sports Flashback

March 15, 1972 — George Karl’s 18 points pace North Carolina past South Carolina 92-69 in the East Region semifinals of the NCAA Tournament for men’s basketball.

 

March 15, 1982 — Larry Bird scores 31 points as the Boston Celtics nip the Washington Bullets 98-97. March 15, 1992 — Henry Williams sinks two free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining to lift Charlotte to a 64-63 victory against Tulane in the championship game of the Metro Conference Tournament.

 

March 15, 2002 — Freshman T.J. Gwynn is named Most Valuable Player after pouring in 22 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as Cummings High School edges North Pitt 80-78 to defend its Class 2-A state championship in boys’ basketball.
