Coyotes rally late, defeat South Mountain to cap tripleheader

HENDERSON, Nev. -- The College of Southern Nevada softball team scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth, then escaped with a 7-6 victory over South Mountain Community College (Ariz.) to cap a tripleheader at the CSN Kickoff Classic at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park on Saturday.
Alicia Firelein scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 6, then following an error, Breea Buckley singled in Tuiuli Felise to give the Coyotes the lead for good. Felise was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the offense.
CSN (4-1) defeated El Paso (Tex.) Community College in the early game, 13-7, before dropping their second game of the day 9-6 against 16th-ranked Odessa (Tex.) College.
Against El Paso, Jasmine Fukuda was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs to lead CSN. Firelein and Felise each went 2-for-3.
In the loss to Odessa, the Coyotes held a small lead but the Wranglers tied the game at 4 in the fourth and added three more runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Cheyenne Wells led the CSN offense in this one, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
CSN wraps up tournament play in the CSN Kickoff Classic on Sunday at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park against Phoenix (Ariz.) College at 1:30 p.m. and against 11th-ranked Chattanooga State Community College (Tenn.) at 4 p.m.
