The Crook County High School graduate has signed a letter of intent to compete in track and field at Southwestern Oregon Community College, in Coos Bay, Ore. Bourland, a sprinter and long jumper, was part of the CCHS 4x100 relay team, which placed at the state meet each of the last two years. He plans on studying firefighting while at the school. “They are the only community college in Oregon that has firefighting and track,” he said. “I liked the school and they have a real good long jump program.” Bourland expects to run the 100, 200, and 4X100 relay as well as long-jump for the school. Southwestern Oregon Community College will pay Bourland’s full tuition as well as room and board. “I plan on spending two years there while I get my structural firefighting certification,” Bourland said. “Then I’m going to study to be an EMT at Southern Oregon State University.” Southwestern Oregon Community College competes in the NWAACC and finished 10th out of 11 schools in this year’s district championships.
