Home » Softball NewsCowgirls whip Roughriders - Central OregonianApril 23, 2012 Crook County High SchoolIt wasn’t always pretty, but the Crook County Cowgirls took a pair of games from the Roosevelt Roughriders on Saturday to take the Special District I championship. The Cowgirls took game one 11-1 in five innings, then held on to win game two 9-8. The Cowgirls scored a pair of runs in the first inning of game one to take control of the game. Those runs were all the Cowgirls would need as Crook County pitcher Loren Saenz limited the Roughriders to just one hit and one run in the game. However, the Cowgirls added nine insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning to blow the game open. Roosevelt’s lone hit in the game was a solo home run in the fifth and final inning. Kaylee Johnson had a double in the game for the Cowgirls while Emily Christiansen ripped a triple and Jena Ovens blasted a home run. Game two was not nearly as easy for the Cowgirls. The Cowgirls scored a pair of runs in the first inning, then added four more in the second. With a 6-0 lead the team appeared to be in total control. However, Roosevelt battled back.
