Home » Golf NewsCowgirls tie for third at Eagle Ridge - Central OregonianApril 9, 2012 Crook County High SchoolLed by a career-best 77 from Kirsti Kelso, the Crook County Cowgirls tied for third place in the 10-team Panther Invitational Golf Tournament on Friday. “That’s her career best by far,” said head coach Grant Patterson about Kelso’s round. “And we missed second place by one shot, which was pretty good.” West Salem’s Ashlee Pickerell took medalist honors, firing a five-under-par 67 to easily outdistance the field. The Summit Storm rolled to first place overall in the tournament, with a score of 328. Roseburg narrowly took second place with a round of 374, while Crook County and Bend tied for third with rounds of 375. Jaci McKenzie and Kalie Solomon had season-best rounds for the Cowgirls, finishing with rounds of 94 and 98 respectively. “They both struggled with their putting,” Patterson said. “But they’re improving and all-in-all I’m pleased.” Rounding out the scoring for the Cowgirls were Chelsea Shank (108) and Sierra Morgan (109). “I’m very proud of Kelso,” Patterson said. “That’s a great round. But I’m also proud of all the other girls. They are working hard and we beat teams like Crescent Valley and West Albany who are always tough 5A programs.” The Cowgirls do not compete again until Thursday, April 12, when they go to Pronghorn Golf Course to compete in the Bend/Summit Invitational. Golf is scheduled to begin at noon.
