January 24-25

January 26, 2014
By Amy Bellus of Concordia Academy Girls Basketball

The Beacons moved to 5-2 n the Tri-Metro and 11-4 overall with a 59-37 win over Breck last night.  The Beacons struggled offensively in the first half and managed only a 2-point lead at the intermission.  However, the floodgates opened in the second half.  Strong defense led to some easy baskets early in the half that got the Beacons’ confidence going.  Kristen Stude got her first double-double of the season as she hit for 19 points, pulled down 10 boards and grabbed 3 steals.  Michala Walther had an excellent all-around game, scoring a dozen points, grabbing 7 rebounds, dishing 3 assists and grabbing 3 steals.  Anika Neuman also finished in double figures with 10 points.  Megan Fallert was tough in the paint, finishing with a game-high 12 rebounds while Clara Paul led the way with 4 assists.

The C team got a win over Breck on a last second basket in overtime from Becca Erdman.  This game was a defensive battle on both ends with the score never getting out of the teens.  None-the-less, the C’s came away with an important conference win over a good Breck squad.
