January 3-10

January 11, 2014
By Amy Bellus of Concordia Academy Girls Basketball

The Beacons are coming off of two straight wins.  Last Friday CA beat St. Croix Prep 60-22 in a non-conference tilt.  The Beacons cruised to the easy victory in a total team effort.  All eleven players contributed and the outcome was never in doubt.  The Beacons got 20 points and 4 assists from junior guard Michala Walther.  Jacquelyn Waedekin and Anika Neuman each scored 9 points and pulled down 4 rebounds.  Clara Paul had a solid night with 4 assists and 7 steals in the win.

CA also got a huge conference victory on Wednesday over DeLaSalle.  It had been 8 years since the last Beacon victory over the Islanders.  Despite losing 2 practice days due to the cold weather, the Beacons took the fight to DeLaSalle.  CA commanded this game from the beginning, extending their lead to 18 late in the first half and taking a 12-point lead into the locker room at half.  The Islanders made runs in the second half to cut the lead to 6 on two different occasions, however the Beacons showed great poise and knocked down important free throws in the final minutes to secure the 56-46 win over last year’s AAA State Champs!  Michala Walther led the way with 13 points and 6 rebounds.  Kristen Stude also scored in double figures with 10 points.  Anika Neuman finished with 9 points and 4 boards.  Megan Fallert dominated the paint, pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds.  Shannon Moore provided a nice spark off the bench hitting 3 of her 4 free throw attempts, grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing 2 assists.

The JV also got a win over St. Croix Prep last week.  Alyssa Moore led scorers with 10 points.  Rebecca Hed had a terrific game, pulling down a whopping 12 rebounds and grabbing 5 steals.  Kelly Trimble showed great leadership, dishing 6 assists in the win.  The entire team showed great enthusiasm and teamwork in the win.  The JV lost a close one to DeLaSalle Wednesday, but got great efforts from a number of players.  Alyssa Moore and Shannon Moore each scored 8 points.  Kelly Trimble, Sally Paul and Alicia Dahl combined to grab 25 steals.  Jayla Ritter was dominant in the paint and pulled down 8 rebounds in the loss.

Thank you for your support of the Concordia Academy Girls’ Basketball Program.  The Beacons travel to North St. Paul on Monday night for a non-conference match-up.  Game time is 7:00 p.m.
