November 18-December 3
January 11, 2014By Amy Bellus of Concordia Academy Girls Basketball
The Beacons are excited to get this season underway, after a 13-14 effort last season. Concordia Academy returns 3 starters and welcomes back senior Kristen Stude who returns from a knee injury suffered during last year’s holiday tournament. Stude, along with fellow seniors Megan Fallert, Jacqueline Waedekin, and Cassandra Adams will anchor this year’s squad. Michala Walther, last year’s team MVP, will continue to have a big impact on the success of the squad. Last year, Michala led the team in points scored and was among the team leaders in rebounds and steals as well.
The Beacons are led by Head Coach Amy Bellus who begins her 20th year in high school girls’ basketball. This is her third year at Concordia Academy and 13th year overall as a varsity head coach. She has led her teams to 3 conference championships and 2 state tournament appearances. Coach Bellus has an overall record of 197-138.
Steve Karel will begin his third year at CA as Fundamentals Coordinator. He works to ensure that fundamental skills are being taught consistently throught our program and offers support for our coaches at each level. Steve has been in coaching for nearly 20 years and is invaluable to our program.
Tami Adams is back for her third year as a varsity assistant. In addition to her duties at the varsity level, Tami also coaches the C Team when they have games that coincide with the JV games. Tami runs our fundraising program and our Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser among many other duties.
Cody Lathrop is brand new to CA this year. Cody is currently a student at Concordia University and spent time coaching at his alma mater out west before coming to Minnesota. Cody will coach the JV and C teams and will assist with the varsity as well. He will also work with Coach Adams on our fundraising and Coaches vs. Cancer initiatives.
