Home » Cross Country NewsCards Qualify for Regionals!October 25, 2010 Colerain High School/WeAreColerain.comContributed by Brendan McDonough Despite a subpar showing last week at the Conference Championships, Coach Mark Bierkan told his teams that their training plan set them up to run fast at the District Championships, and to have confidence that they would prove all the doubters wrong. Both teams did just that Saturday as, for the second year in a row, both the men's and women's cross country teams have advanced to the Regional Championships. The girl's team, with all their best runners on the line for one of the first times this season, were the champions of their race, beating out St. Ursula (ranked #2 in the city) by a single point for the win. Leading the charge were sophomore Kristen Seiler, who finished 6th with a time of 19:19, and senior Allison Steinbeck, who was 7th in 19:23. Stepping up at the right time were sophomore Kabrella Clark (20th, 20:17) and freshman Kelly White (23rd, 20:29), while senior Sam Work (25th, 20:37) ran through pain and the knowledge that she had a soccer playoff game later in the today to finish out the top five. The boys team, on the other hand, beat out the Sycamore Aviators for the 4th and final spot to the regional meet, who last week dealt the Cardinals a defeat by 30 points. The sweet revenge was lead by junior Erik Tomczewski, who finished 7th overall with a time of 16:19. Senior Craig Sulken rebounded from last week to finish 13th in 16:37. Finally the senior trio of Victor Zeinner (21st, 16:46), Craig White (31st, 17:10), and Kurtis Marshall (34th, 17:16) ran an incredible final 600m of the race to seal the win. Next week, the teams will travel up to Troy for the Regional Championships, with a bid to the state championship on the line for both the teams and individuals.
