Week 2 - Sunday September 5, 2004
Colerain (1-0) vs. Anderson (1-0)
The Cardinals felt good after their week 1 win, but they new it was only the first step on a very long journey to where they wanted to go. The next step was to battle Anderson in the inaugural Prep Classic at the home of the Cincinnati Bengals, Paul Brown Stadium.
The Cardinals were ready to go from the minute they walked out onto the field. You can tell they were pumped up for the contest. Check out #53 in the below picture! You think he's ready!?
The Cardinals wasted no time showing the crowd that there would be no letdown vs. the Redskins. The Cardinals came out on FIRE (which matched the temperature, if I recall correctly!) and scored 21 points in the first quarter to take a commanding lead. It was equally impressive in the 2nd quarter as Colerain tacked on another 3 touchdowns! Anderson did manager a FG in the first half. The score at halftime: Colerain 41, Anderson 3
Much of the same in the second half. The Cardinals let up on the gas and traded touchdowns with Anderson to finish off the scoring at 48-10.
Just like Coach Ramsey of Elder the week before, longtime coaching veteran Vince Suriano had the following comments regarding these Colerain Cardinals:
"That's the best football team I've seen in 31 years as a high school coach," Suriano said.
"They're big, fast and physical," Suriano said. " They can win it all."
Not wanting to put the cart before the horse, Head Coach Kerry Coombs spoke after the game about the 2 turnovers and 115 yards in penalties and how these Cardinals were going to have to get a lot better if they were going to get where they wanted to...Canton in December. The following week would represent the opening of their GMC schedule against long-time GMC power, the Princeton Vikings.
