The Cardinal Cross Country Team started off the season with a strong showing, as both teams finished 2nd overall at the Sycamore Sunset Invitational. The girls squad, defending their rank as the 3rd best team in the city, were lead by senior standout Kristen Seiler, who finished 4th in the race with a time of 19:49. The rest of the varsity girls packed up behind her, with five more girls finishing between 21:03 and 21:12. Junior Christina Haffey was one of those five girls, producing a strong race in her first ever 5K. In the boys race, junior Nate Sizemore lead the charge, finishing 4th overall with a time of 16:54. Sophomore Marcus Price (7th overall) and seniors Calvin Hester (9th) and Shawn Messerschmidt (10th) all finished under 18:00 and gave the Cardinals a dominant front pack, with four runners in the top ten of the race. In addition, numerous junior varsity runners produced personal best times, showing a great amount of depth for both squads this season. After taking this weekend off, the Cardinals will travel to the Greenville Invitational.
