Colerain Baseball 2012

The Colerain Cardinals end their season off 8-16 (7-11). The Cardinals started off their season in a battle to win with such a tough schedule. But the team prevailed and ended off their season on a great note, winning 7 out of their last 9 games. To recap this season off with many big plays from the baseball team; Junior, Rudy Mirizzi against the Fairfield Indians hit an inside the park Homerun. The Cardinals also beat the Mason Comets when they were undefeated in the conference (11-0) and ended their winning streak beating Mason 4-3. Junior, Brad Maxie hit his first Homerun against Middletown at Middletown. Senior, Scott Sebald (Commit to Lindsey Wilson College) also hit 2 Homeruns this year against Princeton, and Badin. Sebald also was second in the GMC for most strikeouts thrown this season (58 strikeouts). Sebald threw his 100th career strikeout against the Sycamore Aviators too. On senior day the seniors came to perform for their last time on their home field, and put on a show. Senior, Ray Kelhoffer hit a double in the bottom of the first inning which scored 2 runs to put the Cardinals up 2-1. Senior, Outfielder Tony Mirizzi came up big with three grabs in left field to keep Middletown from taking the lead. But the Middies worked their magic and finally scored a run. Making the score 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning. Then Senior, Nick Brausch who led the team with a .364 Batting Average (66 At Bats, 24 Hits, 7 RBI) showed off his batting skills when he knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game against Middletown 3-2 on their senior day. Junior, Brandon Markus led the team this year in RBI’s with 9 of them, and led in stolen bases too. He had 12.
